With Chinese New Year just around the corner, the weather has been such a scorcher (which is perfect for drying clothes but that's another story) and it's the best time to savor Mum's chiok hwa (Nonya jelly). I've always found it hard to explain what chiok hwa is to friends, it's similar to normal jelly, made from agar agar strips and sugar but it's a lot harder and springier. The colour's also a deeper shade of gold and nearly impossible to find people selling it outside. What makes it even cuter is that she puts them into these bunny moulds that she's had like forever. Yummy!
