My Daily Outfits: Feelin' the Blues

It's always a bit of a joke with my friends and I that I adore the colour blue and almost always have something blue on. 

One thing about having work buddies with similar tastes is that we end up buying the same stuff during lunch breaks and joke about wearing them together at the same time as our office uniforms. This flirty and fun mini is what we call our "Alice in Wonderland" skirt and it's such a easy piece to wear as it goes with virtually anything. I've paired it with a silver, mid open back top for the weekend.

My blush Melissas are one of the best buys I've ever made this year, these saw me through hours of trudging through London pavements and make a dressier alternative to sport shoes. SY, I'm indebted to you for picking such an elegant yet neutral colour for me.

I added a bit of sparkle to my white top - blue jeans combo with my late grandma's brooch fastened onto the pocket. I'd to warn Bubs not to suddenly run into me to avoiding hurting himself or getting a nasty jab myself.

I got this Zara top during my mad power shopping session at Oxford Street and the intricate white lace hem reminds me of Nonya kebayas. I've been using my Cambridge cloud satchel for close to half a year now and it's been the perfect travelling bag with its convenient top handle plus cross body strap. The only issue I've had with it is that with prolonged use, the top handle slips out from the sides. I resorted to tying some twine (and not even in blue, lol) to provide a bit of grip and it works but I'm trying to look for a nicer-looking fix.

Over the Weekend

The best weekends, are often the most uneventful ones, time spent with family and friends, good food and just pottering around.

Bubs met up with the 2 Nats at the Spice Arena public pool. Stoked that we were the first customers of the day, we had the entire children's pool to ourselves for a good part of the morning. They frolicked in the chilly water for hours, chasing and splashing each other.

Weekend uniforms are mainly a white top and skinny jeans with a statement necklace added for some bling. Hubs calls this my Cleopatra necklace.

With Bubs photobombing in the back :) Since it's a somewhat shaky close up, let me tell you how much I love my Cambridge Satchel cloud bag. It's a structured, stiff leather but fits in all my stuff and the twist lock is a much welcomed change from its previous leather buckles.

I went succulent shopping again! The nursery at Green Lane (past the Caltex station) has a wide range of small succulents, from prickly ones that I eschewed to pretty leafy stems. The friendly owners are full of handy tips for looking after plants - an alternative to watering the succulents is to just soak the pot in a shallow tray of water for the roots to suck in moisture.

Here's to hoping that this can last more than a few weeks. I got this unglazed, wide pot from the pottery shop close to the Waterfall Gardens for just RM13.

The Kimberly Street duck noodle stall has been operating for decades. When I was Bub's age, my parents used to take us there for dinner and it seems fitting that now, Hubs and I brought Bubs along with my parents and brother there. We ordered up a storm and Hubs is still in awe of how much food we managed to polish off.

The Amazingly Long Weekend

Can't believe we're at the last day of the glorious, long stretch of weekend :( Less than 24 hours to get back to the daily grind. On the upside, at least the streets will be more sane a bit. Traffic in Penang was horrendous with cars clogging up the roads, particularly at the biscuits shops and outside Gurney. What do you guys think of the new one way streets at Kelawai Road? It makes coming out of junctions even more hair raising with cars zipping by so fast.

Okay, enough whining. Let's focus on the best bits of the week.

Aunt D was back for the holidays and again, we were soooo lucky that she invited us over to the Golden Sands at Batu Ferringghi. Can anyone say beach play again? :D To make it even more fun, Bubs had playmates in the form of the 2Ts: Big T and Little T. Throw a bunch of kids with a ton of sand, some spades and a bucket and they'll be entertained for ages.

This is Big T with the sandcastle we were trying to build. Here's a mind boggling fact: even though Big T is older by Bubs by just a couple of years, Big T is actually considered Bubs's uncle ... in a weird way. Auntie D is my Mum's youngest sis, which means that Big and Little T are my cousins, that would make them ... Bubs's uncle and aunt? I've no idea, LOL.

Sandcastles didn't last long with them mucking around. Every now and then, they'd get bored of trying to make it taller and just pour buckets full of sand over it.

Then it was back to the pool again for more splashing before calling it a day.

I spent most of the long weekend in jeans and a tee. Here's my attempt trying to be hipster-like by cuffing them up. Hubs's verdict: you look like you're about to go paddy planting. Hmmmph.

Bubs feasted on all sorts of sweet treats. Here's him polishing off the slice of that delectable, rich chocolate cake at Ben's. We made him share so he figured sharing means whoever eats the fastest, gets the most-est ;)

The chilled tau foo fah at QBean at Queensbay Mall is our go to place for a quick afternoon snack. We prefer ours old school by eschewing the fancy toppings and going with just a drizzle of gula Melaka.

Remember my love for all things stinky and pungent, eg: durians, petai? Here's another one of my weird cravings which is sadly not shared by either Hubs or Bubs: natto (Japanese fermented soy beans). This dish is so simple yet fab - natto okura (ladies fingers) spaghetti at Isaribi Tei. If you're dining there, you must leave room for the rare (unbaked) yoghurt cheesecake which is tangy, rich and leave you craving for more.

Fashion Friday: Coloured Jeans

I'm not sure if candy coloured jeans is a trend that will be here to stay but it's growing onto me and I've become addicted to all the pretty colours there are out there. I like how it adds a bright splash of colour.

Royal blue is the easiest colour for those that are keen to kick start their coloured jeans collection. I love this pair from Zara as it's a decent fit and the colour is so versatile. Paired this with a coral peplum top and bright orange heels.

I contrasted these Topshop rose pink skinny jeans with a loose blue shirt that had rolled up sleeve tabs and since my workplace has a looser definition of business casual, I managed to get away with this as an office outfit ;)

Aussie Godma got me this pair of lavender jeans and though I was worried that I might end up channeling Barney, I kinda like how it goes with a striped top, pearl necklace and ballet flats. Hubs and I were on a movie date and seeing that it was Oz, I wore these gold glitter ballet flats, too bad I don't have any ruby red shoes!

If I wasn't on a shopping ban, I'd be happily getting a few more pairs of mint and Tiffany blue ;) What do you think about coloured jeans - are they still a trend?

Fashion Friday: CNY Outfits

A quick breakdown of all my CNY outfits that I've been hoarding since last year.

I was umm-ing about the Dorothy Perkins lace pencil dress for the longest time. The last time I tried it on, it was too tight on me but one size larger swamped me. The solution? Luckily it was offered in the petite range so I took 2 sizes up from what I usually wear plus it was on 50% off. How could I possibly say no? ;) It's a deep hunter green in real life but comes up as teal blue in photos. It's all sold out now but this is pretty similar. The lace is so soft though I'm terrified to bits about snagging it.

Grey ruffle sleeve tee and Topshop Leigh jeans in pink. Aussie Godma initially asked me to get her a pair since it was sold out in Sydney. I wasn't too keen on it but after months of staring at it in my wardrobe while it patiently awaited her return, I grew to covet it. I still wasn't keen on the price tag - it seemed a bit too much to pay at full price for coloured jeans which I'm sure will go out of fashion (or has it already gone out?). Again, the shopping gods took pity on me. Topshop had it on sale at 50% off. Yay!

Dorothy Perkins coral bonded lace panelled top and a blue skirt. You'd think that after scoring so many pieces during sales, I could patiently wait for this to be discounted ... nah! I'm enamoured by the bright, fun colour and the bonded lace. It's exactly the same pattern and fabric as the previous Dorothy Perkins dress I've gotten.
