Catching Up

Apologies for the sudden disappearance: it's been quite a busy month with Hubs doing more overtime at his office, the Big Bad Wolf book sale in Penang that has been very damaging to my wallet and a long weekend shopping/catching up with friends treat in KL.

I went a little (which Hubs might describe as a bit of understatement) at the Big Bad Wolf, clocking in a total of 3 trips plus another visit to their permanent store BookXcess. I kept popping novels that I thought looked promising into my basket and frankly, was stunned at the amount that I'd accumulated. I think these loot will last me many a night curled up in bed and eagerly devouring pages.

Cle de Peau Afternoon Tea at Farquhar Mansion

I'd an invitation to a Cle de Peau's beauty event for its spring makeup launch at Farquhar Mansion and brought Jess along with me. It was our first time at Farquhar Mansion at Mission Place. It offers French fine dining amidst the contemporary interiors of a meticulously restored heritage building.

The event was hosted on the 2nd floor of Farquhar Mansion and the place was beautifully decked out with Cle de Peau products, crystal lighting and fresh flowers. Guests were offered hand massages, personalised product recommendations and even a palm reading.

Jess and I opted for a relaxing hand massage where we rested on plush, red armchairs and treated a some seriously blissful session of pampering with the Cle de Peau retexturising body cream. The cream was seriously divine, it had a light, fresh scent and sank right into my hand without leaving behind a greasy feel.

After that, we were ushered to the most eclectic room I've ever seen filled with framed art that stretched all the way across the ceiling. I can imagine this would be perfect for first dates where you could talk about ... well, art, of course :) It was a lovely contrast between the colonial architecture of the building and the super stylish rooms inside.

Plus, each guest was greeted with the loveliest lil surprise: a tiny jar of Cle de Peau's retexturising body cream that we were pampered with earlier for the hand massage.

Far too dark for photos which is why most of my photos ended up grainy.

Cle de Peau explained their beauty philosophy and went through their range of products. We were invited to try out their full range which they had on display and ask questions about it.

Farquhar Mansion's afternoon tea was definitely one of the best I've ever had in Penang. The savouries were served on a 3 tier dish and were such a unique East meets West fusion. The desserts were set up beautifully on a separate dish and the servings were more than generous. If you're a fan of crems brulee, you'll fall head over heels with their subtle twist of adding gula Melaka to it.

Currently Reading

Hubs and I complement each other in the sense that:
  • I read the books
  • He watches the movies
We've done that for most of the major screen adaptions, like Game of Thrones and it's fun to discuss the differences, the plot, the characters. Usually I read the book way in advance before the screen adaption ever gets released so I dangle the threat of spoiling the ending for him. I'm sadistic that way :)

This time around with Gone Girl - yes, I caved into the hype, Hubs watched the movie while I waited breathlessly for my local bookstore to ship in a copy of it for me and Hubs got his revenge by casually asking me if I've reached that part yet ... or this bit yet ... Grrrrrr ...

It started out reallllly slow but after a quarter of the book, I'm now hooked onto it and stuck in that delicious moment of desperately wanting to know what happens next but at the same time, willing the book to not end too fast!
